Vacancies and applications rose in number across 48 sectors during March, according to data analysis from software company Broadbean.
Month-on-month, both permanent and temporary vacancies increased, by 2.6% and 4.7% respectively.
However, despite this encouraging upward trend, vacancies are down compared to March last year – by 1% and 3.1%.
Looking at the figures on a quarterly basis, permanent vacancies grew in all major sectors, according to Broadbean. The top-performing sectors for permanent roles between January and March were new media and internet (up 27%); health and safety (up 23%); and public sector/government (up 22%).
As far as temporary roles were concerned for the same quarter, graduates and trainees had the strongest quarterly growth – up 96% – almost double the same period in 2012.
Candidates appear to be in good supply. Broadbean’s analysis revealed that the number of applications per role is up by 3.3%, even though average salaries dipped by 0.7% on a three-month rolling basis.
