Data from global job board Indeed has revealed that almost half of all job seekers are searching for and applying for jobs via a mobile device.
In June this year, nearly 50% of searches were done on a phone or tablet, according to Indeed, yet many companies were falling at the first hurdle by not having a mobile friendly website.
The company found that only a tenth of Fortune 500 companies had a mobile friendly application process. And among those that did, 30% of candidates who wanted to apply left at the first stage, the user log-in.
“Mobile job search is not a thing of the future, it is a reality today. A majority of job seekers around the world find jobs on a mobile device, but only a fraction of employers allow them to apply right there and then,” said Chris Hyams, senior vice president of product and international at Indeed.
“The best talent will not wait to apply later — they will simply move on to another opportunity.”
Indeed also announced that it had agreed to acquire another mobile business MoBolt, which provides mobile job application technology, and the deal should close this month.
“MoBolt enables any employer to leap frog this road block and access every candidate,” added Hyams.
MoBolt’s technology allows jobseekers to apply for jobs from any smartphone, tablet, or desktop browser.
“It is critical that companies mobilise and simplify their existing job application process to gain a competitive advantage in the talent war,” said Kshitij “KJ” Jain, founder and CEO of MoBolt.
