Most employees would give up a higher salary if they felt more appreciated for their efforts at work, new research has revealed.
A survey by One4all Rewards showed that 71% would prefer to work for an employer with an effective benefits and rewards package, rather than take a role with a higher salary.
It also revealed that 68% felt that being regularly thanked for their input would make them more loyal to their employer, and 34% claimed they would be less likely to leave a position if they were given regular appreciation and praise.
Employers that fail to show appreciation could also fail to attract new recruits, the survey found, with 17% saying they would turn down a job offer where there were no employee benefits in place.
UK managing director for One4all, Declan Byrne, said: “It’s a surprise that so many people would forgo a higher salary for a secure benefits package in place. This shows the great investment that employee benefits, rewards and incentives can be for companies.
He added that 20 per cent of those surveyed do not get any form of employee benefits, saying: “It is important that all employees are rewarded in some shape or form – as it is an informal way of boosting morale and increasing a company’s employer brand.”
