A deep sense of purpose, a clear mission and strong organisational values are just some of the attributes that distinguish the UK’s Best Workplaces from others, says employment consultancy Great Place to Work.
Every year, Great Place to Work publishes a special report, Great Workplaces, sharing data and insights from its research. Its 2016 list of the UK’s best workplaces sees an unprecedented number of new organisations in the spotlight, including Mars UK, Adobe Systems Europe, Wellcome Trust, RHP Group and firstlight public relations. Topping the Large Business category (500+ employees) for the first time is software company Softcat, while the Medium and Small categories welcomed two newcomers to the no. 1 spots, RHP Group and Foundation SP, respectively. Recruitment consultancy Career Moves also featured within the top 15 in the Small Business category. Internet giant Google topped the World’s Best Multinational category.
Awards were also given to the Best Workplaces that had excelled in the categories of Leadership, L&D, Wellbeing, Employee Voice and CSR.
This year’s Large category winner, Softcat Plc, also picked up an award for Most Trusted Leadership. Meanwhile, three organisations achieved Master status this year by being recognised as a Best Workplace for 10 years running: Baringa Partners, Ketchum and McDonald’s.
Simon Grosse, CEO of Foundation SP (winner of Best Small Workplace), explained what sets his company apart: “We believe that the approach we’ve taken to people and values – alongside our business-focused approach to dealing with clients – is what differentiates us from our competitors. We have openly discussed the four key pillars of our business with our staff, customers and community partners. Our values focus on creating a great culture in which employees and clients feel engaged, rewarded and happy. We focus on building bridges by finding ways to connect people and businesses so they can share knowledge and ideas. And we encourage creative productivity, by focusing on innovation.”
