Smart Solutions opens East London recruitment hub

September 13, 2018  /   No Comments

Smart Solutions has opened a dedicated hub in East London that will focus on candidate recruitment and streamlining application processes.

The new office in Barking will be the first port of call for people from across the capital who are seeking largely blue collar, HGV and waste disposal roles. Its catchment spans much of the inner M25 and will focus on recruiting candidates for existing client contracts in Wandsworth, Waltham Forest, Edmonton and Bromley as well supporting Smart Solutions’ work in other parts of the South East of England.

Supported by four permanent members of staff, the hub will undertake telephone and CV screening, together with the relevant checks on a person’s qualifications, licences and references, before putting them forward for interview. The dedicated hub removes the involvement of managers during the initial recruitment phase and frees up their time to focus on in-person candidate interviews and day to day operational management.

It will also host training sessions for successful candidates.

Martin Barnard, general manager of Smart Solutions’ managed service division in the South East, said: “The addition of our new candidate sourcing centre in East London is a huge positive for both jobseekers and clients. The hub makes it easier for potential job applicants who contact us to seek work and their initial conversations with staff at our hub will help speed up the process.

“The streamlined approach allows us to focus on the initial stages of someone’s recruitment, building a rapport with them quickly and cutting down on any potential time lag between first contact, interview and commencing work with us.

“We have found that, in areas where we have dedicated recruitment hubs, the percentage of candidates who turn up for face-to-face interviews and go on to employment is considerably higher. It is also great news for our clients as the hub provides ongoing access to skilled labour in an area of the country where unemployment is relatively low and therefore the need for candidates is high.”

Founded in 2007 by chief executive, Nathan Bowles, Smart Solutions announced a record turnover of £97 million for the year to July 2017, up 8% on £89.5 million in the year prior and rounding off 10 consecutive years of growth.

Nathan commented: “When the business started 10 years ago, we couldn’t have anticipated it growing to the size or scale that it has today. We now have a truly national reach, supporting individuals into work and clients with their staffing needs.

“Recruitment is a fast-moving industry and we are constantly looking at more efficient ways of working and to adapt and enhance our offering to both clients and jobseekers. With Brexit looming and relatively low unemployment rates, the need for continuous sourcing of new labour is essential.”
