Science, clinical and engineering recruiter SRG has released its latest Salary Survey, in partnership with New Scientist.
Based on over 3000 responses from SRG’s global database and the readership of New Scientist magazine, the report provides the science industry’s most comprehensive overview of salaries and benefits, as well as outlining the economic and political factors currently affecting the industry.
Among the findings, it was discovered that:
- 5% of science professionals received a pay increase in their last pay review
- The average salary increase in science was 1.86%
- The average bonus in science is £3,071 (8% of salary)
- 64% of scientists have a positive view of their employer
Kelly Morton, SRG Managing Director, said: “As we head towards an uncertain future, confidence will be key. Our respondents have understandably mixed views on how Brexit will affect the industry: 45% believe it will have a significant impact on their business and 44% believe it will have only a minor impact. There are signs that science can continue to thrive in these uncertain times and many employers are clearly thinking about the future by running graduate, industrial and apprenticeship schemes to help create a pipeline of talent.”
SRG’s report suggests that scientists remain positive despite this uncertain outlook.
Kelly continued: “Even though they’re under more pressure than ever before and many find their jobs stressful, science professionals are positive about both their employer and their industry. We very much hope that this positivity will allow both candidates and their employers to ride the tide of uncertainty with confidence.”
