Recruiters are posting an increasing number of job vacancies online, according to figures from totaljobs.com.
New statistics from the firm’s Q3 2014 Barometer show that the number of jobs posted on the site in September was 14% higher than a year earlier, while there was also an 8% month-on-month (MoM) rise. The report also shows a quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) growth of 7%.
New jobs in the transport and logistics sector have contributed toward this growth, with an 18% increase in job postings MoM and a 26% increase compared to the last quarter.
Banking, insurance and finance are also performing well – up 13% MoM and 12% QoQ, and accountancy jobs saw a 7% MoM and a 9% QoQ increase.
Retail jobs were also up in September – 8% compared to August and 13% compared to the last quarter. There has also been an 8% MoM increase and a 15% QoQ increase in customer service roles.
However, graduate and trainee jobs were down by 3% MoM, although the number did rise by 4% compared to the last quarter.
The totaljobs.com figures follow on from September’s ONS Labour Market Statistics which showed employment continuing to rise and unemployment continuing to fall.
Ian Burke, director at totaljobs.com, said: “Our latest Barometer data confirms the upward employment trend in the UK and points to much higher business confidence levels in the last month.
“It’s interesting to see that transport and logistics jobs have seen such a large increase. Clearly major infrastructure projects like Crossrail are having a real impact, as well as the growth in online shopping, which has given a significant boost to the logistics industry.
“It’s no surprise to see retail jobs steadily increasing as we move into the festive season. Many retailers are already starting their seasonal recruitment drives to ensure they have enough staff to manage the Christmas rush.”
