Recruiters from TeamJobs have signed up to run in the Bournemouth Marathon Festival for Dorset cancer sufferers.
Members of the company’s Hospitality and Commercial teams will be tackling the Speed of Light 5K event to raise funds for Dorset Cancer Care Foundation (DCCF).
With offices in Parkstone Road, Poole and Hinton Road, Bournemouth, TeamJobs was named Dorset Company of the Year 2015.
Around 10 members of staff will be running for DCCF.
Rachel Wilson of TeamJobs, said: “When we heard DCCF was asking for volunteers to run in the marathon for them we jumped at the chance. This will be the first kind of event like this for most of us, but we have all had relatives and friends who have been touched by cancer in some way and knowing we will be raising money for sufferers here in Dorset will really spur us on to do the best we can.”
Eve Went, Pam Jeffries and Leslie-May Harrison from Poole formed DCCF in 2012 to help cancer patients meet the cost of everything from transport to and from hospital, to childcare and much-needed short breaks.
DCCF Founder, Eve Went, said: “We were so pleased when TeamJobs got in touch and offered to run for us this year. They are such a fun-loving and energetic company and we know they are going to work very hard on our behalf to raise as much money as they can.”
Recent grants have included money for a new pushchair for a child undergoing chemotherapy and to pay for a short break for a terminally ill man and his wife. The charity has also funded an overnight treatment room at Lewis Manning Hospice in Poole and is helping Wessex Cancer Trust to set up patient support centres in Dorchester and Bournemouth.
This is the third year DCCF has fielded a team for the Bournemouth Marathon Festival and once again it is paying runners’ registration fees in return for different levels of sponsorship.
The Bournemouth Marathon takes place over October 1–2 with a full marathon and half marathon of 10K and 5K, respectively, and two junior events of 2K and 1.5K. Anyone wishing to run in the marathon festival for DCCF should visit www.run-bmf.com.
