This year sees the introduction of some of the most radical changes to affect the recruitment and contracting sector in recent years: the Apprenticeship Levy and new IR35 legislation.
As a result, the Association of Recruitment Consultancies (ARC) is hosting a full day conference in London on 9th February focusing on the Apprenticeship Levy and public sector IR35. Keynote speakers include Mark Bull, CEO of Randstad UK, one of the country’s leading specialist recruitment consultancies.
Commenting on Mark’s confirmation as a keynote speaker, Adrian Marlowe, Chairman of ARC, said: “There is no doubt that the apprenticeship levy will have an impact on the recruitment supply sector and as a trade association representing the sector, we are campaigning for the government to review the way the levy is applied. I am therefore delighted that Mark Bull, CEO of one of the UK’s leading specialist recruitment consultancies, will be speaking at our conference to add his voice to the concerns we’ve been highlighting in recent months.”
Meanwhile, the Freelancer and Contractor Services Association (FCSA) is holding a series of free seminars up and down the country to equip recruiters with all the information they need ahead of 6 April when the new IR35 legislation comes into effect in the public sector.
Industry experts from Ernst & Young will outline the legislative changes, the models and practices in the sector and the risks and challenges they present, how to engage with providers and balance commercial best practice and risk management as well as providing insight on how the industry is set to react to the changes.
The FCSA’s seminar dates and locations are:
Manchester: 28th February 2017, 14.30–17.00
Edinburgh: 1st March 2017, 14.30–17.00
London: 14th March 2017, 14.30–17.00
Julia Kermode, CEO of FCSA, said: “The impending changes to the current IR35 legislation is set to cause further disruption for the recruitment industry so I would urge agencies to sign up to our free seminars so that they are well prepared. Recruiters will play a key role in supporting their clients on the intricacies and detail of the complex changes they will be facing so we have lined up some of the UK’s leading tax experts to offer guidance and expert advice to help them navigate the road ahead.
“There are just a few weeks until the new legislation comes into effect and as an independent trade association we have a duty to ensure its effective implementation in the best interests of our industry — the supply chain, the flexible workforce that it supports and end-hirers.”
